When preparing for a labour-only fitting project, it is essential to manage delivery, materials storage, and acclimatisation correctly.
1. Acclimatisation of LVT and Sheet Vinyl: One of the most common causes of vinyl floor failure is failing to let the material adjust to the room's temperature before laying. Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) and sheet vinyl rolls must be stored flat in the room where they will be fitted for at least 24 to 48 hours beforehand. Yes. You can buy your carpet from any retailer or online wholesaler and book me for the fitting as a completely separate job — you pay for the carpet once, and for the labour separately. There's no obligation to buy your materials from a fitter.
Splitting the purchase and the fitting is common and often cheaper, because you avoid the markup retailers add when they bundle materials and labour together. Buy your carpet, underlay and grippers wherever you like — I'll inspect everything for damage or defects on arrival and fit it to British Standard BS 5325. You then cover two separate costs: the materials you bought, and my transparent, itemised labour rate.

What preparation do I need to do before the fitter arrives?
